Invitation to Conference
Dear Participants of the 8th International Wheat Conference,

The preparation for the 8th International Wheat Conference is well on the way. At the moment we have over 600 registered participants from more than 80 countries. This makes it truly a mega event for the global wheat research community. Since the 1st International Wheat Conference held in Ankara from June 5 – 9, 1972, this will be the first time that so many wheat scientists will meet in one place in historical Saint-Petersburg. The conference program includes more than 50 oral presentations covering all aspects of wheat research and breeding with reports from all wheat producing areas of the world. The poster sessions have almost 300 presentations and we hope they will give a chance for communication and exchange of ideas. The content of the presentations clearly reflects that the spirit of Nikolay Vavilov and Norman Borlaug is very much alive.

The number of participants exceeded all our expectations and the organizers had to accommodate people in a 2nd hotel. Transportation will be provided in the morning and in the evening as well a regular day-long shuttle between the hotels.

When the conference preparation entered the final stage, the organizers experienced some challenges with communication and the issue of forwarding visa vouchers to you. If someone was affected I would like to express apologies on behalf of the organizers. I am sure once you have arrived in St. Petersburg you will forget fast when you can enjoy during the short white nights the scientific presentations, communication with your colleagues and friends, and experience Russia and St. Petersburg

Yours sincerely.
